I had to clear out a little comment spam today, and thought while I was in here I may as well make a quick post regarding the state of the site. I will also hint at a few things coming down the pipe that should make your jordanthomas.org experience a little more enjoyable.
To start, I've been slammed at my day job for going on a couple months now. I've been putting in long hours on large projects and needless to say, it hasn't done an incredible amount for my recreational programming demeanor. Thus, development and article-writing has taken a back seat to more mindless tasks, things such as Call Of Duty 4.
Secondly, Microsoft decided to release a new version of the .NET framework (version 3.5) and a new version of their Visual Studio IDE (version 2008). Being the curious soul I am, I could not resist the thought of tinkering around with these new toys (especially since Visual Studio Express Edition is free). Fast forward a few hours of code-playtime and I had made the decision to rewrite the site against the new version of the framework. This is all fine and good, with one exception. My host has yet to update thier server with the new framework, so the site remains in limbo, indefinitely shackled to the quarantines of localhost.
So, the site is mostly functional at this point, just waiting for a home. I've been in contact with the hosting company, and they tell me their intention is to update the server some time in the next three to seven weeks. Weak, but at least I can add some polish in the mean time. Some new stuff includes:
- New ajax-y comments.
- Employs LINQ for the data shuffling.
- Slightly different look.
- Tweaked URL structure to be a bit more intuitive.
- Multi-author support.
- Revamped database.
Now that I write it out I realize a lot of the effort is in things nobody will really ever see, bummer. Anyhow, I hope you stay tuned. Hopefully once the new version has nestled into its new abode updates will become more frequent.
